Subject: For Wednesday 11/13: Podcasting: Language and Culture Through Storytelling
You created this Announcement: (Sorry, this announcement escaped before it was ready. Please disregard the previous one) Hi all, I hope you are doing well. It was great to see you again today and to listen to your pitches for the third episode. I hope you are all as excited as I am about it. Thanks to those of you who contributed your thoughts, critiques and suggestions. Please don´t forget to link to or embed your pitches slides onto your blog. We keep getting closer to the due date for that episode and to the end of the semester. Here is a list of things I ask you to do before we meet again on Wednesday as we advance toward the completion of these and other course goals: - If you did not yet get to do it (apologies for the snafu), please read the interview with Sruthi Pinnamaneni, listen to some examples of her work, and complete a short blog entry summarizing her advice and answering the two questions at the bottom of the Spotlight on production step.
- Read through the Podcast Genres step. After skimming through the information, decide where you would categorize some of the podcasts we've heard throughout the semester, e.g.
Justify your answers. Listen to this brief episode of Planet Money and post a short reflection on it on your blog. Where would you classify it in this taxonomy? Why? Does the content inspire or motivate you? Does it interest you? Why or why not? Do they use fiction or nonfiction storytelling at all in this episode? How so and for what purpose? Finally, here´s a neat little app that might come in useful for turning your interviews into great tape for the episode. Special thanks to Stephan for sharing it with us: I feel as if I may have mentioned this before, but if you want a transcription app that really works, then I highly recommend Otter.Ai which is currently creating a storm with near perfect real time transcription. My students on the 82-285 Podcasting course are using it to record interviews, they say it is perfect for looking back over a conversation, searchable and includes timestamps. Couldn't be better. | I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, when you will be given time to pitch your own show for the future. Come to class prepared with an idea of the kind of show that YOU would like to do for fun, profit, or both. See you soon, f | | | |
