Fwd: Dissertation Participant Recruitment - Please Share!

Hello!

My name is Mary Mehlburger and I am a doctorate student at Carlow University studying Counseling Psychology. I am looking for people to participate in my dissertation study. I want to understand the mental health therapy experiences of first-generation, Latinx immigrants. There is not a lot of research about the mental health treatment of this group, who typically have unique stressors that mental health therapists may not understand.

The criteria for my participants is as follows:

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Previously received mental health therapy

    • At least one, previous mental health therapy session

    • Can currently be in mental health therapy

  • Latinx descent (Caribbean-, Latin-, or South-American countries)

  • First-generation immigrant (born in a Caribbean-, Latin-, or South-American country before moving to the United States).

Participants will NOT have to say if they are documented. Interviews can be conducted in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. A translator will be present.

This study will interview participants about their experiences in mental health therapy. Interviews will last about 60 to 90 minutes. If interested, participants can complete one of the screening forms listed below, or I will contact them by phone to complete the screening process. I will contact the participants that do qualify by phone or email to schedule their interview.

I am happy to provide more information or speak with interested participants. Please do not hesitate to contact me at memehlburger@carlow.edu.

Thank you for your consideration.

Best,

Mary Mehlburger, M.A., PsyD-C

"FOOD, IN THE END, IN OUR OWN TRADITION, IS SOMETHING HOLY. IT'S NOT ABOUT NUTRIENTS AND CALORIES. IT'S ABOUT SHARING. IT'S ABOUT HONESTY. IT'S ABOUT IDENTITY."

Head Chef Jose Luis Portrayed | La Palapa | Mexican Restaurant | Catering PittsburghJose Luis, Head Chef

Chef José Luis has been working for over 15 years in different restaurants in Puebla, Mexico and around the United States where he has trained and practiced in cuisines such as Mexican, Italian, American, Spanish, Portuguese and Mediterranean. During his career he has specialized in cooking for gourmet Mexican and Spanish restaurants.

Jesús is a traveler who loves cooking and eating. Through his travels he has seen and tasted the flavors of many different countries from Latin America through Western and Eastern Europe to the Middle East. "When somebody you meet invites you to their table, that is when you realize that families really show you their culture through their kitchen and flavors". This was the principal reason why we wanted to partner and open a window to the Mexican culture and customs through the flavors of Mexico…

Part-Time Job Opportunity for Spanish Speaking Students

Hello! I hope you are all well.

My name is Chloe Kinnahan and I'm the program coordinator for a local non-profit called Open Field. We facilitate Soccer + Social Emotional Learning sessions for youth across Pittsburgh- mainly in immigrant and refugee communities.

We partner with the Latino Community Center/ SOY program in Pittsburgh Public Schools, as well as with the Mooncrest Community. We are currently looking for folks with Spanish language skills and an interest in soccer to run sessions for youth, once to twice a week.
I am specifically looking for someone with proficiency in Spanish to begin at the SOY after-school program at Beechwood Elementary School (Fridays, late afternoon) starting in mid-April.

There are both Spring and Summer opportunities- as well as non-Spanish speaking opportunities for those who may be interested but not proficient in Spanish.

I'm attaching 2 fliers here- one for Spring opportunities (Spanish speaking) and one for wider Summer opportunities (some Spanish/ many non-Spanish speaking)-  that I'm hoping you can share with your students. Anyone who's interested can email me with a cover letter/ resume and/ or questions.
Thank you for your time!

Warmly,

--
