"Her songs are richly detailed with slices of life… Hinojosa is a strong, poetic sensual, and conscious voice." - Spin Magazine

When it comes to finding inspiration, sometimes you have to put a few miles between yourself and your hometown, or, even your country.  Back in the States after nine years in Hamburg, Germany, iconic Austin singer/songwriter Tish Hinojosa performs this May at SongSpace.

As the youngest of thirteen children born to Mexican immigrant parents, Hinojosa grew up listening to traditional Mexican songs as well as the 60's pop, rock and folk music on her parents' radio.  Across 15 solo albums, Hinojosa has explored everything from country to bluegrass to Tex-Mex, contemporary folk, the Beatles and Woody Guthrie.  She's made the Billboard charts and won the NAIRD Indie Folk award, while advocating all along the way for Latino, women's and children's issues, and the United Farm Workers.

Hinojosa played the White House at the invitation of President Clinton and Hillary Clinton, and her song Donde Voy was recorded by Linda Ronstadt. She has teamed up with artists like Joan Baez, Kris Kristofferson, Dwight Yoakam, Nanci Griffith, Pete Seeger, Flaco Jimenez, and Los Lobos.

Christopher Mark Jones opens for Tish at SongSpace.  Chris has played street-corners, folk clubs, festivals and national radio shows in Paris, London, Denmark and Holland, as well as clubs, house concerts and coffeehouses throughout the Eastern U.S.   After forays into rock, jazz and swing, and time off to raise two sons, he's returned to soulful country and blues-inflected Americana, releasing three CDs since 2010 and finding favor with folk DJs both nationally and internationally.

Saturday May 7th at 7:30pm (Doors 7:00pm), First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh, Shadyside, 605 Morewood Avenue, Pgh., 15213.  All ages; wheelchair accessible.  Suggested donation: $20 general / $15 student & limited income.  At the door or online at songspace.brownpapertickets.com.
