Intermediate Spanish Essay Program, deadline 12/1

As you  start a new term, we at Pearson Higher Education wanted to remind you about our "Es tu mundo ¡Conéctate!" Intermediate  Spanish Essay Contest — an opportunity for you and your students to  celebrate the unique experience of using the Spanish language in the local  community.   Who can participate:  Any student enrolled in an Intermediate Spanish course at a  2–year or 4–year college or university.  Students  must visit http://www.pearsonhighered.com/intermediate_spanish <http://communications.pearsonhighered.net/servlet/cc6?ioKQTTSQYVkiULxHgKjLOQJumQLKmVaVSYVf6bebvEXv6fGVStHgnXkiHgpkoJhglLkl>  to download the submission form. How to sponsor a student:  Make it an optional extra credit activity for your  students.   Make it a required class  assignment.  Or, simply let students in  your class know about the contest.  You  can sponsor your entire class if you like!   Prizes will be awarded to both the student and sponsoring  professor.   Can students submit essays without a  sponsor?  YES.   Prizes will be awarded to both the student and the Spanish department at  the student's respective college/university.  1st Prize: $300 for student + $150 for sponsoring instructor/department
 2nd Prize: $200 for student + $100 for sponsoring instructor/department
 3rd Prize: $100 for student + $50 for sponsoring instructor/department Topic: Please describe your experience  using Spanish in your local community.   Did it help to give you a greater appreciation of the diversity of your  local community?  Please explain.   Submission guidelines: Maximum 1000 words, double spaced,  written in Spanish.  Essays must  accompany the official online submission form.   Entries will be accepted via e–mail and snail mail. Deadline: all entries must be postmarked by December 1, 2009.  Winners announced December 15, 2009. Winners  will be selected by the authors of the 4th edition of Conexiones, Eduardo Zayas–Bazán, Susan  Bacon and Dulce García.  Entries will be  judged on originality, creativity, expression of ideas and presentation.   Saludos  cordiales, Denise  Miller
