As the International Coordinator of El Nahual Language Center, a non-profit located in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, I am writing to share exciting information with you about our progressive, community development focused Spanish language school and volunteer program.
El Nahual provides high-quality Spanish language instruction to foreign students while investing all our language school's profits into our community development projects located in the poorest areas of Quetzaltenango; Guatemala's second largest city in the northwestern highlands. Our Spanish language students are strongly encouraged to volunteer as English, art, and/or music teachers in our educational programs. Additional volunteer opportunities include our organic community garden and continuous local construction projects in which students can work alongside the indigenous community.
Students enrolled at El Nahual will receive:
· Four hours of one-on-one lessons customized to their interests and level with a Guatemalan certified Spanish teacher Monday through Friday
· Free and guaranteed volunteer opportunities 10-15 hours a week
· Homestay and three meals a day with a Guatemalan family
· Daily cultural activities: salsa dance lessons, Guatemalan cooking classes, indigenous weaving demonstrations, lectures on Mayan and Guatemalan history and current events
