Happy Easter! I hope everyone's enjoying their three day weekend and getting some much needed R and R! (or at least catching up on homework)
1. This Wednesday at 7pm we'll be hosting a study mixer with First Together. Come study and kick back while listening to music curated by you! Add any song requests here! Event will be held over Zoom.
2. Friday we have former SALSA president Kate Liston leading a Cena a las Seis. Come listen to her stories and have some good food! (we will be reimbursing meals during the event :) ) Event held over Zoom at 6pm.
3. On April 23rd, senior Gian Seixas will be leading his Cena a las Seis! Make sure to hear his stories and eat some good food (meals will be reimbursed). Held over Zoom at 6pm.
4. Join us to send off the end of the semester at our end of year GBM on Wednesday April 28th! Will be on Zoom.
5. Wish out Seniors farewell at the Senior Goodbye Dinner on Wednesday May 5th. Lets have fun and send off our seniors with a celebration! Held on Zoom.
Some opportunities for yall! :
1. Let us know if you are interested in helping to choose Hispanic/Latinx speakers to be sponsored by SALSA/The Center next semester! We will be forming a committee of Undergraduate and Graduate Students, Faculty, and Staff at CMU to help up choose the best speaker to engage our members and the campus (possible names could be Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), Guillermo del Toro, or, maybe even Bad Bunny, who knows!). If you're interested, let us know HERE.
2. Visa is hosting a National Case Competition on April 23rd with a $10,000 prize pool. Signups are due by April 12th, sign up HERE. Full details are HERE.
3. You can earn $30 by participating in a focus group for Jopwell, a company built as a career advancement platform for Black, Latinx, and Native American students and professionals. They will be asking questions about perceptions of careers in healthcare. These will be held on Tuesday the 6th and Wednesday the 7th, so sign up soon!
Additionally, they may be able to help you find an internship at a Fortune500 healthcare or insurance company. Full details are copied at the end of this email.

Hi SALSA,
My name is Michelle and I'm on the Community team at Jopwell, the leading career advancement platform for Black, Latinx, and Native American students and professionals. We are hosting virtual focus groups between Wednesday, March 31st and Tuesday, April 6th to discuss perceptions around careers in the healthcare industry and we'd love to invite Spanish and Latin Student Association (SALSA) to participate. Each focus group is one hour and each participant will receive a cash voucher of $30.00 for their participation in one focus group. (These sessions will not be recorded and our main goal is to elicit opinions!)
In particular, we would like to know:
· How careers paths in the healthcare industry are perceived among underrepresented minority (URM) student audiences
· How employers in the healthcare industry can increase their appeal to URM job seekers
· How to address perceptions and barriers to recruitment among URM job seekers
· Opportunities for increased awareness and employer branding to emerging audiences
