SAVE THE DATE & REGISTER! October 14th @ 12:15-1:30 Webinar- PERFORMING AFROLATINDAD: THE ARTS, IDENTITY, SOCIAL JUSTICE

 

Join us October 14th-16th for the LatinxConnect Conference. As a part of the conference, Transnational Dialogues in Afrolatinidad will be hosting its first webinar of the year!  

 

On October 14th from 12:15- 1:30, the webinar entitled "Performing Afrolatinidad: The Arts, Identity, and Social Justice" will include Pablo D. Herrera, an acclaimed Afro-Cuban hip hop music producer and PhD candidate in social anthropology; Jade Cintrón Báez, founder and artist director of "!Looking Bilingüe!" a YouTube storytelling series that celebrates biculturalism and bilingualism in the Latinx community; Zuly Inirio, an Afro-Dominican opera singer and founder of the Afro-Latinx Song and Opera Project which commissions musical works on the stories of U.S. Afro-Latinxs; and Jason Méndez, a Boricua writer, playwright, performer, educator and founder of Block Chronicles, a national web-series and online magazine profiling Latinx and other BIPOC educators. Michele Reid-Vazquez, director of the Afrolatinidad Studies Initiative, and Luana Reis, president of the ADDverse Poetry Collective, will serve as co-moderators. These scholars and artists work at the intersections of music, education, Latinx, Cuban, Dominican, and Puerto Rican Studies and will explore the ways that these issues overlap and impact U.S. Afro-Latinxs and Afro-Latin American communities.
