Join us for #notwhite collective and Kente Arts Alliance

Dear Friends,

We have a couple of events for you this week, live from our stage and brought to you virtually. Be part of the conversation with a local multi-disciplinary artist and enjoy live Latin Jazz in-person or virtually, on-demand.

All programs are free to watch virtually on-demand from anywhere and there are still some available tickets to watch Salsamba live and in-person. Share the experience with your friends and you could even win a gift certificate (see the bottom of this email). We hope that you'll join us for several of these programs.

MONDAY, October 11, 7:00 PM
In-Dialogue series
Presented by the #notwhite collective

Run time: 60 minutes

The #notwhite collective In-Dialogue series features conversations with BIPOC, AALANA, indigenous and immigrant artists and arts administrators.

The series reimagines the past and present history of the arts sector by engaging and presenting the wealth of experience, strategies, and tactics of the global majority, notwhite descendants, inheritors of colonialism, indigenous and immigrants who navigate a predominantly white arts sector.

The opening session spotlights Pittsburgh-based poet, collagist, and curator Corey Carrington. Carrington's practice is used to initiate positive social change while exploring themes of identity, connectivity, community, and individuality. Learn more

Salsamba Latin Jazz Quintet
Presented by Kente Arts Alliance

Run time: 90 minutes

Salsamba is a Latin Jazz Quintet that fuses authentic Latin-American rhythms with the harmonic and melodic sophistication of contemporary American jazz.  Based in Pittsburgh, Salsamba performs at clubs, festivals, and colleges throughout the United States.  The group has opened for many national and international stars such as Latin jazz king Tito Puente, guitarists John Scofield and Stanley Jordan. Co-leaders are music director and guitarist Eric Susoeff, and conga player George Jones who are backed by multi-saxophonist and flutist Eric DeFade, bassist Jeff Grubbs, and drummer Thomas Wendt. Now in its 37th year, Salsamba proves itself to be an enduring creative collaboration. Learn more.

Two ways to watch—live in-person from Alphabet City or virtually on-demand via City of Asylum @ HomePrograms that take place at our venue have limited seating, so we encourage early registration. Please review our safety policies below before registering to attend.
