Musical echoes of the Colombian Conflict

 

Alia Musica presents: Music and Poetry from the Colombian Conflict   Thursday, January 31 7 p.m.  City of Asylum @ Alphabet City 40 W. North Avenue FREE! Alia Musica presents an evening of  poetry, discussion, and music commemorating and confronting the Colombian armed conflict. This program will feature works of chamber music stemming from different aspects of the conflict, with a special appearance of Colombian poet Piedad Bonnet (winner of the National Poetry Prize 1994 and the Casa de las Américas award). Her poems have been musicalized in Johan Hassler's work, La Cicatriz en el Espejo, which will be performed.  University of Pittsburgh Professors John Beverley and Juan Fernando Velasquez will complement the evening with a panel discussion contextualizing the Conflict in history and within Colombia's rich artistic culture.  This program is cosponsored by Colombia in Pittsburgh and produced in part with the support of the Leveler Foundation and the Heinz Endowments.   Click Here for Free Tickets   Música y poesía del conflicto colombiano Alia Musica presenta poesía, discusión, y música entretejidas en la memoria del conflicto armado colombiano.
