Friends, thought I would pass along a note about another local screening of Girl Rising, a narrative documentary about nine girls from nine nations, including Haiti, Peru, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Egypt, Afghanistan, Nepal, India and Cambodia.
It is showing at 7:30pm on Thursday, April 10 at the SouthSide Works Cinema. Tickets are $10 purchased through the link below.
I had the opportunity to see it at a screening last month, and found it incredibly moving on multiple levels: as art, as advocacy, and as gorgeously photographed, innovative filmmaking. It is a documentary that gracefully interweaves facts about the ways education can improve girls' lives with dramatic elements that make for a powerful experience.
A young friend is organizing this showing as part of his work with his high school's human rights club. The viewing is tentative until 40 people register to attend via this link: https://gathr.us/screening/7496
Even if you can't attend, please pass the word to any/all you know who might be interested.
Girl Rising journeys around the globe to witness the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to change lives, communities and maybe even the world. Viewers get to know nine unforgettable girls living in the developing world: ordinary girls who confront tremendous challenges to pursue their dreams. Prize-winning authors put the girls' remarkable stories into words, and renowned actors give them voice.
