5. Info regarding NOBCChE's third meeting (on Nov 18)

At the national level, NOBCChE has a lot to offer.  Each year there is a national conference with 600-1000 attendees from chapters across the US. Undergraduate and graduate students can compete for fellowships and in poster and oral competitions for cash prizes and internships. There are also at least 100 booths representing the nation's top universities, industries, and government jobs. This provides an opportunity to network, and possibly even interview for positions.
Our local chapter hopes to involve undergrads and grad students from CMU, Duquesne, and Pitt majoring in:
Chemistry
Chemical engineering
Materials science/engineering
Biomedical engineering
Biochemistry
Below are a few specific goals for the local chapter:
Establish an organization in which underrepresented minorities in the sciences can meet and network.
Hold periodic seminars in which visiting professors can present their research.
Hold an annual poster competition open to all undergraduates involved in research.
Establish a community presence by engaging in K-12 outreach activities.
So far this semester, we have held two interest meetings. Our third meeting is on November 18th at 4:00 pm and we will be holding elections for office positions and discuss progress with establishing the chapter. If you are interested in coming to the meeting, running for an office position, would like to be added to our email list, or have questions about the organization in general please feel free to email me.
