4 - Project-LOUGUE Submissions

1 - Weekly Schedule

There will not be a GBM this week to give everyone the opportunity to take full advantage of the TOC!
However, we know you all will be tired from all that networking, so we will be having our Welcome Party on Saturday, September 29th (date has changed) @ 11pm. The address will be 5114 Beeler Street (B2).

3 - Google's BOLD Internship Program
Google has begun accepting applications for their BOLD Internship Program. About the program:
The Building Opportunities for Leadership and Development (BOLD) Internship Program is a paid summer internship for rising undergraduate seniors that are interested in business careers in the technology industry and full-time job opportunities at Google. We've designed our program to expose historically underrepresented students in this field to career opportunities in the industry and to prepare all entry-level talent to be ambassadors for diversity, equity, and inclusion in their careers. Students from all schools, and students who identify with a group that is historically underrepresented in the technology industry, including but not limited to Black, Hispanic, Native American, students with disabilities, and veterans, are encouraged to apply.

4 - Project-LOGUE Call for Submissions
Project-LOGUE, an initiative promoting awareness of Pittsburgh's linguistic and cultural diversity, is opening a call for writing and art submissions in languages other than English.
The theme is:

Tell us about the untranslatable in your life! Maybe it's a word, phrase, or proverb that loses meaning in translation. Maybe it's a conversation you can't imagine having in a second language. Maybe it's a feeling or experience that language alone can't express.

Submissions are due: October 15th
Email prjlogue@gmail.com if you have any questions or submissions.

Kids! Grab your passports and Let's Travel the World to Latin America!

Cuentos:
Tales from the Latino World

Saturday, October 13
3 p.m. - 4 p.m.

40 W. North Avenue
Pittsburgh, PA 15212

FREE!

Let's Travel the World storytelling resumes on October 13th with an afternoon of family-friendly songs and storytelling by David Gonzalez.

David is a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for Sustained Excellence from the International Performing Arts for Youth and a cultural ambassador for the U.S. State Department. He was also commissioned by Kennedy Center to create new work.

For his visit to City of Asylum @ Alphabet City, David will be presenting Cuentos: Tales from the Latino World—a great introduction to the world of Latino literature and culture.

Cuentos paints a vivid picture of the people and rich cultures of the Spanish-speaking world—with colorful tales from the Caribbean, South America, and the Bronx. From the antics of the Puerto Rican anti-hero "Juan Bobo" to a suite of Afro-Cuban stories, these tales are filled with memorable characters, fantastic plots and positive messages for children.

Spanish language words are used throughout the stories and songs so that children can repeat and retain their sound and meaning.

Children who received a passport booklet at a previous Let's Travel The World! program can bring these back to receive another collectible sticker!  But it's never too late to collect stickers, so if this will be your first time at Let's Travel The World, be sure to ask for a passport and your first sticker.  Each sticker in your passport earns discounts in City of Asylum Bookstore.
