Weekly SALSA


¡Hola amigos!


I hope you've had a restful weekend and started to think about the fantastic empanadas we'll be making this coming Wednesday. Please try to come out for as long as you can! We'd love to see you and to have fun company while making empanadas.

Event: Procter & Gamble Info Session hosted by First Together

About: FirstTogether has invited us to attend their networking and professional development session with the CPDC, grad students, and an Assistant Director from Procter & Gamble. This is a great oppertunity and food will be provided, so come through and help support them! RSVP HERE


Event: Empanada GBM 1

Date & Time: 5:30-7:00pm, 2/20/19 

Location: CUC Peter

About: Help us make empanada dough during this conversational GBM! During the first 1/2 hour of this GBM we will go over what our plans are for this semester to update you guys and 'all-things-eboard' including roles, time commitment, & why you should be a part of ours in anticipation for our March 5th elections. We hope you stop by, even if it's only for a little while; we will fry up an empanada for you as a thanks for helping!

Event: Haciendo Enlaces (Making Connections)

Date: Monday, February 18th at 6:00pm

Location: West Wing Rec Lounge

About: Join us for the first session of the semester of Haciendo Enlaces, a Spanish immersion event to get to know other CMU community members through the Spanish language!  We will kick off the semester learning and sharing colloquialisms from different Spanish-speaking countries and cultures through a jeopardy-like game!  Get excited for some competition and fun with old and new connections.  We will have great snacks as always. Fluency in Spanish is not required, we recommend at least intermediate level proficiency in order to listen, communicate, and share.  Please pre-register here so that we can order the appropriate amount of food for attendees.  We look forward to seeing you there!


Event: Kavi Ade (Speaker)

Date: Rangos

Location: February 21st at 7:00pm

About: Ade's poetry centers on their experience as a Black Trans Queer person. Their work centers on topics of race, gender, sexuality, and social justice. They have performed and spoken at several events all over the United States, including True Colors, the largest LGBTQ+ youth conference in the United States. At CMU, Ade's performance will bring to light topics of intersectionality between race, orientation, and gender. If you would like to learn more about Ade's work as a speaker and performer, this is a link to their website.


Event: Home Language; March multilingual exhibit Date: Opening on March 1 at 6-10pm; exhibit open March 1-29th

Location: Assemble (4824 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh 15224)

About: Home Language features many of the numerous languages and cultures that call Pittsburgh home. Bringing together local artists and writers from different neighborhoods across Pittsburgh, the exhibition highlights the diversity of our city through music, art and writing.
