1 - Weekly Schedule

    Discussion Topic: Foods from Home!
    What foods did you grow up eating? What foods do you enjoy from your home culture? Come discuss with us your favorite foods from your home culture with us! We will also be discussing our next big event: the Empanada Sale!!!
  • SALSA, SPIRIT, SHPE, NSBE Mixer
    October 18th, 7pm - 9pm, Rangos 3
    Come join us as we mingle with other cultural organizations at CMU! There will be food, activities, and discussion all focused on building our community of color! We will be making and serving empanadas at the event!



2 - Colors @ CMU

Colors@CMU is a student group that brings open and honest conversations about diversity and race to our campus. It creates a safe environment for people of all backgrounds to come together and converse about issues related to diversity. They are having a meeting TODAY to discuss how these conversations should be happening on campus. The meeting is on from 5:30-6:30 pm in Wean Hall 8325. Free food will be provided!




3 - Golden Door Scholars

This year, Golden Door Scholars, a nonprofit that provides large college scholarships to high-performing DACA students, will award up to 50 large college scholarships to DACA students across the country who are starting or continuing college in the Fall, 2019  October 25, 2018 is the deadline to apply!




4 - Project-LOGUE Call for Submissions

Project-LOGUE, an initiative promoting awareness of Pittsburgh's linguistic and cultural diversity, is opening a call for writing and art submissions in languages other than English.
The theme is:

Tell us about the untranslatable in your life! Maybe it's a word, phrase, or proverb that loses meaning in translation. Maybe it's a conversation you can't imagine having in a second language. Maybe it's a feeling or experience that language alone can't express.

Submissions are due: TODAY, October 15th

5 - Vibrant Pittsburgh Survey

Vibrant Pittsburgh is an organization dedicated to making Pittsburgh a more welcoming and comfortable place for people of all diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. They have sent us a survey regarding our opinion of Pittsburgh. Please fill this out, as this data can be used to make improvements around the city!




6 - Nicaraguan Cooperative in Pittsburgh

Aldea Global, a pioneering Nicaraguan cooperative with certified fair trade, organic, and rainforest alliance coffee is visiting Pittsburgh Oct. 25 and 26. We will hear from a woman who works for the cooperative about their programs for women's empowerment, economic development, and health.

This event at the Global Switchboard is relevant to anyone interested in working in the international development sector as well as socially responsible businesses who account for social impact in their supply chains. The event is free and open to the public. We will host a light reception following the coffee tasting with complimentary appetizers and food and wine for purchase.
