Hello friends of the Latino Family Center,
We hope you are enjoying the final days of summer and looking forward to the Fall! Please find attached our September newsletter that has many exciting news inside! We have been in our new location for 2 months now and it has gone quite well!
Just a couple of things I would like to draw your attention to:
1) Kermes: Our families have been motivated by this new space and through this motivation they have come together to put on our first traditional Mexican "Fair" called Kermes (invite attached in Spanish). The parents are planning this fundraiser for the parent council, where they are making Mexican food and selling it here at the Latino Family Center on Sunday September 13th! The kids have also been practicing really hard to present a couple of traditional Mexican dances. You will not want to miss it! Please come hungry to support our Parent Council! The event will be here from 2-6pm.
2) Latino Needs Assessment: Through the generous support from the Jefferson foundation and Heinz foundation, the Latino Family Center and Casa San Jose will be conducting a Latino Needs Assessment starting this month! We will hold 11 listening sessions all over Allegheny County to see what the strengths of the Latino community are, and how we can better support the Latino community reach their hopes and dreams. You can find more information inside! We are still looking for space in a couple locations (North Side, Natrona Heights, Wexford) so if you know of space please let me know.
3) Latino Youth Service Coordinator- AmeriCorps Position still open: We are still looking for someone who is interested in working with our Latino Youth in Allegheny County. Please note this is not an actual position with the AIU, this is an AMERICORPS position. For more information on Compass AmeriCorps please go to: http://www.gplc.org/literacy-americorps-pittsburgh.cfm
Finally, I hope you enjoy this Labor day weekend with your loved ones! Thank you for all that you do to support the Latino community in Allegheny County.
