Soy AfroArgentino: Race and the National Census of 2010” a public lecture by Miriam V. Gomes (The lecture is in Spanish)

Ms. Gomes was the Coordinator of the National Campaign for Awareness of the Afro-Descendant Variable for the 2010 National Census in Argentina, which took place last October, 27th, 2010. She is the President of the Organization of the African Diaspora of Argentina, a former delegate to the World Forum on Racism in Durban, South Africa, and a public intellectual in her country. She also teaches Latin American and Luso-African literature.

Date: TENTATIVELY re-scheduled to Thursday, March 31, 2011

There will also be a screening of the documentary “Afro-argentinos” on Friday, 12:00 p.m. in Room 358, Cathedral of Learning. Ms. Gomes will take questions afterwards. The documentary has English subtitles.
