Community Outreach: El Circulo
El Circulo is a not-for-profit community enterprise aimed at working with Hispanic/Latin@ children in Pittsburgh, ages 6-12, in order to assist in the preservation and development of their Spanish skills and cultural knowledge.  We do this each term through 20-hour workshops held two hours every weekend at CMU.

El Circulo's Fall workshop will start on Sunday, Sep. 19, 3-5 pm, and will continue every Sunday on this schedule until Nov. 21. This Fall term, we will be focusing on "juegos," games and play ranging from mimica (charades), rayuela/golosa (hopscotch), loteria and other board games, including some regional treasures, all the way to educational video games in Spanish.

Volunteers will devote 20 hours in the term to assisting the children in playing and learning some of these games, as well as in creating and developing their own games to be showcased (and played!) at the end of the workshop. Other opportunities to volunteer "behind the scenes" for El Circulo include website/blog developer/writer, grant-writer, logistics/events coordinator, photographer/videographer, community liaison, etc.
