Happy Chinese Lunar New Year, the year of the SNAKE! The Chinese Lunar New Year is on 1/29 (Wed) and there are several celebrations being held around the Pittsburgh community and CMU campus. The Chinese Studies program is hosting two events for the CMU community and beyond as follows. All are welcome!
Event #1: 2025 CMU Chinese New Year's Eve Social: Cross-Community Engagement (Tues 1/28, 12:30pm-3:30pm, CUC McConomy Auditorium, 1st floor). (Note: This event is held in the daytime to accommodate high school student schedules)
Hosted by the 82-139: Chinese Culture Learning and Community Engagement & 82-439: Black Myth Wukong classes, Chinese Studies Program
Audience: The event is free and open to the public. 50-60 Avonworth High School students & 150-200 CMU community members are expected to attend.
Come enjoy the activities to learn about Chinese Lunar New Year traditions, legends and food. Watch cultural performances, including dances, Taichi, and Black Myth Wukong video game demo, take photos with Chinese costumes and props, play games, win Chinese lucky red envelopes, eat Chinese snacks, and more. Event #2: 2025 Chinese New Year Celebration (1/31 F, 7:30-10:00pm, CUC Rangos, 2nd floor): The Chinese Studies Program is co-organizing this event with the Chinese Students Association (CSA). There will be many performances at the event, including performances by 60 82-139 class students. The event will feature some fun activities including dancing, singing, games, raffles and small snacks. Expect to have over 400 people in attendance. CSA is selling tickets for $5 (early bird $3) to help cover the event expenses. Keep the ticket for the raffles! Attached please find the QR code for ticket purchases.
