Thursday, April 4th  | 7PM

How often do men simply fall to their deaths? In Anatomy of a Fall, the 2024 Academy Award-winner for Best Original Screenplay, novelist Sandra Voyter lives with her husband Samuel Maleski, and their 11-year-old visually-impaired son, Daniel. But their relationship is deeply strained, with Daniel often caught in the crossfire. Returning one morning from a walk with his service dog, the boy finds his father dead in the snow below their chalet, seemingly having fallen from the third floor. But did he jump? Or was he pushed? Or did the man just fall? The marriage of Sandra and Samuel slowly unfolds as audiences follow this unsettling psychological thriller across the icy sheets and murky depths that constitute a failing love-relationship.

LOST SOULZ

Directed by Katherine Popper
USA | 95 minutes | English
Friday, April 5th  | 6:30PM
@ McConomy Auditorium, Carnegie Mellon University
Lost Soulz spins the poetic tale of rising rap sensation Sol, who abandons everything and everyone he knows to drift across the country in a once-in-a-lifetime road trip with some friends and mutual artists. Spurred on by producing original music and the constant thrill of seeking something more, Sol learns to make himself at home in strange places, and how to garner fame through epic (and oft-unconventional) means. But the truth remains that Sol is running from something, and the slow-burn pangs of a guilty conscience seem to chase his van down across the breadth of the Texas desert, even into California and the L.A. promised land.

SOMETIMES I THINK ABOUT DYING

RACHEL LAMBERT
SOMETIMES I THINK ABOUT DYING

Directed by Rachel Lambert
USA | 95 minutes | English
Saturday, April 6th | 7PM
@ Harris Theater
In the blissless monotony of everyday life, has there ever been a time when you've thought about dying? Sometimes, life is just that demoralizing. In  Sometimes I Think About Dying, protagonist Fran's mind is rooted someplace far away, buried in the peace of nature: sometimes, she is lying on a rotting log, sometimes surrounded by a forest. And she dies there. But upon pulling away, she returns to face the boring male bosses in the office, trivial matters, banal gossip. Living a cut-off life, she sets aside time in the evening hours for herself to watch films, drink wine, and finally unite body and spirit. Audiences are left to wonder whether those who wish most of all merely to withdraw from the world may simply be seeking out the warmth of a close embrace in secret.

This event includes:

  • Zoom Q&A with the Director Rachel Lambert.

20,000 SPECIES OF BEES
Directed by Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren
Spain | 128 minutes | Spanish, Basque, French with English Subtitles
Sunday, April 7th | 5:00PM
@ McConomy Auditorium, Carnegie Mellon University
20,000 Species of Bees follows the course of 8-year-old Lucia's transformative summer embedded in the Basque countryside alongside her mother's family. Sunsoaked and transparent, Lucia engages in faltering, anxious, and frustrating endeavors, seeming almost to tumble into the reality of her true self and her gender identity. Parallel to Lucia's adolescent struggle for assertion, her mother Ane strains against the weight of her father's career in the arts to find her own expressive authenticity. A subtle tension builds for both mother and daughter as they win the confidence to push free of ill-fitting molds; intrepidly pushing to secure acceptance and peace within the droning hum of their apiary community.

This event includes:
