Duquesne University Human Rights Film Series - free and open to the public

 

 

 

Good Afternoon,

 

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures is pleased to announce In Pursuit of Justice, the 13th annual Human Rights Film Series, January 29 to February 26, 2020. The films we have chosen address compelling issues that are at the forefront of our national discussion. We urge you to address these issues in your classes and encourage you and your student to attend the series.

 

*FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC*

Locations : College Hall room 104 or 105

     Start time of 7pm.

 

 

 

  • Wednesday, January 29: Roll Red Roll: The story of a teenage girl’s assault by members of a high school football team and the repercussions of this event in the community of Steubenville, Ohio.  CH 104, 7pm.

 

Speaker: Lee KRobbins. Title IX Coordinator, University Compliance, Duquesne University

 

·       Thursday, February 13th: Parkland Rising: The story of the inspiring students and families who organized the March for Our Lives Movement after the horrific Parkland school shooting on February 14, 2018. CH 105, 7pm

 

Speaker: Detective Joseph Bielevicz, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police

 

·       Monday, February 17th : The Unafraid: DACA students in Georgia, a state that has banned them from attending its top public universities. CH 104, 7pm

 

Speaker: Liliana E. Castrellón, Assistant Professor, Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership, Duquesne University

 

·       Monday, February 24th: Invisible Hand: Capitalism vs. the rights of nature. CH 104, 7pm

 

Speakers: Joshua B. Pribanic, American film director, editor, investigative reporter and founder of the investigative news non-profit, Public Herald.

·       Wednesday, February 26th: The Silence of Others: State-sanctioned amnesia towards the crimes of the Franco regime. CH 104, 7pm.

 

Speaker: Lucìa Osa-Melero, Associate Professor, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, Duquesne University

 

 

The films are showing in the McAnulty College of Liberal Arts (College Hall) Room 104 or 105. All films start at 7:00 pm.
