Women Make Movies:

Birth on the Border

One million people legally cross the U.S.-Mexico border every day in both directions. Among them are women who cross for the purposes of childbirth. This intimate and personal documentary follows two women from Ciudad Juárez as they cross the U.S.-Mexico border legally to give birth in Texas, putting their hearts and bodies on the line as they confront harassment at the hands of U.S. border officials.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with filmmaker Ellie Lobovits.

WEDNESDAY, 10/23 @ 7 PM
ReelQ:

UNSETTLED (Seeking Refuge in America)

This feature-length documentary reveals the untold stories of LGBTQ refugees & asylum seekers. UNSETTLED takes place largely in the San Francisco Bay Area, historically a beacon for dislocated LGBT people in the U.S. While cultural narratives of a "queer promised land" still persist, the film asks whether Northern California is a practical place to resettle, especially in light of gentrification and increased cost of living.
