Hola a todos,
Happy Sunday! No doubt you're all very busy, but I really hope you remember to take at least 15 or 20 minutes for yourself. We all need some time to unwind for a moment. In the meantime, we have a lot of exciting news this week!
Latino(a)/x House: If you haven't heard about the house yet be sure to check the groupme and the last email that was sent out earlier today by our President Gabriela. All the details should be there, but if you have any questions please ask!
Loteria Night (Freshman Only Event): Our freshman representatives (Kate and Jackie) have organized a loteria night for our SALSA freshman. There will be food! Please fill out this when2meet poll here so they can figure out when is the best time to host the event.
Afro-Beat Puerto Rico: Drumming, Dancing, & Call and Response: A workshop presented by Calle Bomba and sponsored by the CMU Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion. Participants will be introduced to basic Bomba drum rhythms and musical patterns, basic Bomba steps, already existing and new, basic, 4/4, Bomba lyric patterns in Spanish and English. Lower level, CUC. Food and drinks will be provided and bring drums if you have them!! Be sure to check out the FB event here.
T-Shirt Contest: We are having a T-Shirt contest! We are looking for a new T-shirt and logo and we want your input! If you wish to submit a design there will be a soft deadline the Friday before spring break (March 9th) and a hard deadline the Friday after spring break (March 23). The prize is a $30 amazon gift card and a free T-shirt with your winning design! The design MUST contain the year (2018) and the acronym and name of our organization. Meaning it must have or say both "SALSA" and "Spanish and Latin Student Association" somewhere. Please send in pdfs of your entries to the SALSA email.
Orientation Counselor (OC) Application: We would like to make sure that all of you are aware that the 2018 OC applications are now available. Please apply if you have any interest! Applications can be found here: https://www.cmu.edu/student-affairs/orientation/oc/index.html .
A few reminders about the Orientation Counselor role:
• OCs are assigned to a residence hall floor community and serve as a main point of contact for those incoming first-year students during the week of Orientation.
• Strong applicants have a genuine desire to serve and help incoming students with their transition to college and exhibit professionalism, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and community building skills.
• OCs must be available for all of training and Orientation week from August 12-26, 2018.
• Applicants must have completed at least one semester and be returning to CMU for an undergraduate or graduate degree program next fall.
• OC candidates will participate in a group interview process and be notified if they are selected in April.
