| | Commemorating the Victims of U.S. Foreign Policy November 1st and 2nd, is the Day of the Dead or Dia De Los Muertos, a holiday that focuses on remembering family and friends who have died by constructing altars called ofrendas to honor the dead. Today, SOA Watch activists will take this message to Capitol Hill to solemnly and festively honor our ancestors, families, and friends while demanding policies that promote life, not violence.
While we are at the Capitol, we also know that the real power to change the status quo is in the people of the Americas! We encourage you to take the message to your local Day of the Dead events that we must put an end to the death caused by the School of Americas, the endless "Drug War", exploitative "Free Trade Agreements", the militarization of the border, and other policies that have harmed Latin America in the past, continue to harm Latin America in the present, and that will continue to harm Latin America in the future if unaltered. You can easily download and print this Day of the Dead themed flyer to bring to events and to help mobilize your communities for the gathering at Fort Benning in November.
There are only 21 days until the Vigil at Fort Benning, Georgia where we gather together to remember those who died at the hands of this school's graduates, and to celebrate life and resistance. Today, SOA Watch activists across the hemisphere remember the dead and seek justice in the final days before the Vigil on November 22-24. Join us at Fort Benning when we converge at the gates of the School of the Americas for a weekend that includes over 70 workshops, amazing musicians, and speakers from across the Americas and so much more.
See you at the gates! SOA Watch
