Call for Papers
Director: Pablo Pozzi
Consejo editorial: Mario Ayala, Rubén Kotler, Laura Ortiz, Melisa Slatman, Pablo Vommaro.

Press Release
The Institute of International Education Announces New IIE Graduate Fellowships for International Study with Funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
The Institute of International Education (IIE) will administer IIE Graduate Fellowships for International Study beginning July 1, to provide support for PhD dissertation research to approximately 80 doctoral students in the humanities whose funding has been lost due to recent significant reductions in federal spending. A special one-time only grant of $3.16 million from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has enabled IIE to create these fellowships so that talented emerging scholars can conduct research overseas for six to 12 months, with the goal of advancing knowledge, research and teaching in non-western languages and area studies.
The IIE Graduate Fellowships will be awarded to students in the humanities, who make up about 80 of the 130 students who had been nominated to receive funding in 2011/12 through the U.S. Department of Education-funded Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Program. After the spring 2011 budget cuts, funding for these fellowships was no longer available through the Department of Education.
The Institute of International Education worked quickly with The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to create these fellowships, which will be awarded to students in the Mellon Foundation's areas of focus, including humanities fields such as the arts, history, languages, and area studies, and zones of fields such as anthropology and geography that bridge the humanities and social sciences.
IIE will begin work on the fellowship program on July 1, 2011, with final selection of the students to receive fellowships and notification of the students regarding funding for their research in academic year 2011/12.
For inquiries related to eligibility and selection, please email Theresa Granza at tgranza@iie.org

Open School for Ethnography and Anthropology (OSEA) offers a Teaching English Service Learning Program. This program allows students to gain 8 credits of service learning in a multi-faceted Community Action Research project.
Students learn the conceptual foundation and practices of social based methodologies of language teaching. As well, students begin a process of learning Maya and local cultural traditions as a resource to be used in the teaching English classroom.
Students become Teachers who apply second language acquisition and anthropological theory learned in the classroom to create an English-language program for the residents of Pisté, México. The challenge is for the English teachers to design and employ activities and lessons that valorize Maya language, customs and history in the process of teaching English. Teachers become students of the Maya participants who are learning English.
Students become Ethnographers who use fieldwork methods to assess the ongoing learning process of the classroom. Ethnographer-Teachers use visual and audio-visual methods to document and analyze the transcultural dynamics of bilingual education in second language acquisition.
